Welcome to the Gene Tracers' blog!
Hello, welcome to my new blog. I've decided to try writing one to let you know what's going on in my world, to give some basic information about researching your own family history, and occasionally blog about my own family history research into the RAVEN family.
So, first of all, a bit about myself: As my website shows, I run the genealogy research company Gene Tracers based in Reading, Berkshire, England. The great thing about being a genealogist is its flexibility - it allows me to balance the complexities of being a mum and carer with that of running a business in something I love! And today was a day when I needed some flexibility to spend some quality time with family at a BBQ, and the sun was an added bonus.
Secondly, the RAVEN family. I've been researching them on and off for over 25 years. 'Raven' was my mum's maiden name and has been an exciting, and exasperating journey so far! I was very close to my granddad, Albert Edward Raven, but I knew very little about his family when he was alive. I vaguely remember meeting an Auntie Et and Auntie Vi when I was young, but wasn't really sure how they fitted into the complex extended family network that included Aunts (who weren't actually Aunts) and Uncles(who weren't actually Uncles), who were called such as marks of respect from the younger generation to the older.
